FAQ'S and Questions

How many ligature models does Rovner manufacture?
Are there distinctive differences between the sounds of each ligature?
Tell me something about the material used in your ligature?

Rovner Products manufactures four different ligature models. The following is a list of our ligatures with a brief overview of some of the tonal characteristics one might experience. Please note that with each performer, these characteristics may differ. Players are encouraged to experiment. However, all Rovner Ligatures are designed to assist the player in maintaining proper intonation.

Dark - Warm, mellow, open and centered sound
Light - Bright, broad open tone, free playing and highly
responsive
Mk III - Full, solid, well-defined tone; accurate response in all registers; ease of control and dynamics in all tonal ranges.
ED II - Six distinctively different tones; big rich sound; even response; more accurate intonation in all registers; easy to play.

Finally, Rovner ligatures are produced with specially designed fabric that will not stretch nor rot. Metal fittings are made from corrosion resistant materials.

Why do you offer a trial period on your ligatures?

We believe the player needs to try them out alone and to experiment with the ligature in different situations. This way, the player has an opportunity to try different models in a no-pressure type situation. If ligatures are ordered from Rovner directly, we will honor a ten-day free trial period.

Why do Rovner mouthpieces play so well?

First and foremost, all Rovner mouthpieces are machine faced and then hand tweaked by Phil Rovner. The Rovner mouthpiece is unmatched in tonal richness. Professionals and students alike have experienced excellent control and ease of playing in all registers. Coupled with the EVO-5 ligature, the Rovner mouthpiece actually assists the player in finding and maintaining a truer sense of pitch.

Briefly, how is the Rovner mouthpiece designed?

Our "Deep-V", "Eagle" and "Wilkerson" model mouthpieces are designed with a full window length. This full table facing assists the performer in achieving a bigger, more cohesive sound. The "Eagle" and "Wilkerson" models are designed with a dual chamber. Representing true advancement in mouthpiece technology, the dual chamber offers impeccable intonation with a more intensely rich sound. The "Deep-V" and the "Eagle" are machined from sllid brass and are gold plated.

What is "Hard Rubber Type"?

The "Wilkerson" model mouthpieces are constructed from a patented material called Micro-Porous Rubber/Polymer Alloy. This material is better than hard rubber in that it is warp and impact resistant and will not break. In fact, Rovner Products guarantees this. Coupled with another patented process called Wave-Front Stabilization, Sil-B Temper and Frequency Selective Polymer Impregnation, our hard-rubber type mouthpieces enhance tonal clarity, focus and response. The hard-rubber type is designed for the player who enjoys the feel of a hard-rubber mouthpiece.

What are some of the tonal differences in your Saxophone Mouthpieces?

"Deep-V" Great power; perfect for Blues and Rock & Roll. Models 30D and 40D 30D-low baffle, medium bright; 40D-high baffle, maximum bright sounds

"G" Series A traditional mouthpiece designed for the professional but used by the student

My friend told us about your "G" Series mouthpieces. He is a band director and was looking for an alternative mouthpiece for his clarinet and saxophone students. We all know about the professional mouthpieces that are available on the market. How does your "G" Series fit in to the picture?

Designed for the classical and jazz musician, the "G" Series is a generic, traditional clarinet and saxophone mouthpiece. The mouthpiece enhances tonal clarity, focus and response and actually assists the performer in developing a more accurate intonation. Originally advertised this as a mouthpiece designed for the professional but its price is suitable for the student. The "G" Series mouthpiece has is a wonderful alternative for the student at any age and at any stage of performance.
