Ligature Models Revealed

Understanding the Ligature Sizing Guides

Rovner currently produce more than 100 ligatures with sizes to fit most mouthpieces on the market today. However, it is possible that a manufacturer's newly produced mouthpiece may be a non-standard size. If you are attempting to order a ligature for an unlisted mouthpiece, we advise that you select your Rovner product that is similar in size to another brand that is listed. When placing your order, please indicate this information in the Comments section of our online shopping cart. This information will ensure that you are shipped the correct size.

Rovner makes every attempt to keep our guides up to date. However, we may not be aware of the latest mouthpiece models and therefore may not be listed in our documentation. Our online resources and guides will assist you in selecting the correct model and size. If you have any additional questions, please contact us.
Except for the original DARK ligature, all Rovner ligatures include a prefix letter that indicate the model. The number or number/letter combination after the hyphen indicates the size. See the information below for clarification.
  • The only model that does not have a letter prefix
  • An "R" within the number indicates that the ligature fits a rubber mouthpiece
  • An "M" within the number indicates that the ligature fits a metal mouthpiece
  • Example: a "2M" fits most metal tenor mouthpieces, while a "2R" fits most rubber tenor mouthpieces
  • Other letters, like "E" for example, reference size only
  • These explanations for letters within the model number hold true for all other models, as well.
